Description:

The Art of ICD-10-CM Coding is a two-day diagnostic coding workshop appropriate for ALL levels of home health and hospice coders. This workshop, led by national coding expert Sparkle Sparks, PT, MPT, COS-C, is structured to develop ICD-10-CM coding skills and foster good habits crucial to coding success. This critical foundational knowledge, along with application through workshop exercises and coding scenarios, will lead to coding accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Some of the objectives for discussion include:

  • Awareness of the Differences Between “Clinical Speak” & the Language of Coding
  • Selection & Sequencing Criteria for Primary & Secondary Diagnoses
  • Instruction for Proper Use of the ICD-10-CM Coding Manual
  • Recognition & Use of Coding Conventions & Guidelines for Accurate Code Selection
  • Emphasis on the New ICD-10-CM Guidance
  • Discussion of OASIS Concepts Related to Home Health Coding
  • Exercises & Scenarios to Reinforce Critical Knowledge for Successful Coding

This highly interactive class is structured to foster competence and confidence when assigning ICD-10-CM codes. It is MANDATORY to bring an ICD-10-CM Coding Manual to fully participate in the class and complete application exercises that reinforce the concepts covered in the workshop.

NEW THIS YEAR – Prepare for the workshop! If you are relatively new to coding or not familiar with the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting for 2017, it is highly recommended that you review pages 8-18 of this document prior to the workshop. These pages describe and define the foundational concepts of Coding Conventions (Section I.A) & General Coding Guidelines (Section I.B) that will facilitate your understanding of concepts to be covered in class. These terms will be used throughout the workshop, but they will not be covered extensively in class. Your pre-class efforts will greatly enhance your learning experience.

The Home Care Coding Specialist – Diagnosis (HCS-D) Exam will be offered the following day on March 3. This optional exam has a separate registration and fee. Click here to register for the exam.

Upon completion of the workshop, attendees will receive 13 nursing CEs and 13 continuing education units from the Board of Medical Specialty Coding and Compliance
