Home Is Where the Heart Is: Help Seniors, People with Disabilities Stay HomeSimply put, there aren’t enough direct care workers to support seniors and people with disabilities at home. Inadequate Medicaid reimbursement rates for home-based care make it difficult for homecare agencies to pay workers more than $11 per hour. Direct care workers, who play such an important role in keeping people safe at home, can find higher pay in retail and food service -- one of the reasons the industry has a nearly 70% turnover rate. These valuable workers provide care and support to keep seniors and people with disabilities in their homes surrounded by loved ones. Seniors would rather stay at home than “go to the home.” FACT SHEET: Veterans Fought for the Nation, Now It's Your Turn to Fight for Them SPEAK UP!
